DUE DILIGENCE

Risk Mitigation Measures

When a risk assessment indicates a non-negligible risk that the product is not deforestation-free or produced in accordance with relevant legislation, the organization must apply risk mitigation procedures before selling the products.

Policies, controls, and procedures to effectively mitigate and manage the risks of non-conformity with the product must be maintained.

Some examples include: Best practice risk management practices, reporting, record keeping, internal control and compliance management (the latter not in case if you are an SME) . Show and document how decisions on risk mitigation procedures and measures were taken.

Decisions on risk mitigation procedures are documented, reviewed annually, revised if necessary and made available to competent authorities upon request. The organization can demonstrate conformity through FSC Forest Management Certification.
